Political Journalism in Portugal

The conference Political Journalism in Portugal will take place on june 11th, at the Portuguese Parliament.

The event will set the stage for a debate on the relation between media and politics in Portugal, with an analysis of communication strategies, political commentary, spin doctoring, on the relation between humour and politics, pools and social networks - relevant themes in a year with three electoral acts.

The program includes several roundtable sessions with researchers, communication professionals, journalists and politicians. Researcher Paula do Espírito Santo will be on the first panel, to present the results of research currently ongoing at the Centre for Public Administration and Public Policies on political journalism and representations in the press about the portuguese President, the national Parliament and the government. On the afternoon, researcher António Rebelo de Sousa will participate in a roundtable with João António (CESOP) and João Queiroz (Aximage) on surveys and polls. By the end of the day, CAPP researcher Nilza Mouzinho de Sena will discuss the role of the media in the parliament with members of Parliament from other political parties.

The event is organized by Rita Figueiras, from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and Paula do Espírito Santo, researcher at the Centre for Public Administration and Public Policies, with Raquel Ubach Trindade and Filipe Resende from Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
