Summary:

Life in the cities can be profoundly altered by organizational forms and practices. This is a multidisciplinary project with two major parts. One of them focuses on internal organizational processes, and the other one on their external processes of transformation and configuration. The first part may take various theoretical perspectives, such as the Sociology of Organizations, but also the Sociology of Work. In this first part, we are interested on organizational socialization issues, career development, performance appraisal and perceptions of organizational justice.

The second part of the project focuses on the study of organizations, particularly relating their adaptation and transformation processes of with the changes in individuals’ lifestyles and consumption patterns. This second part of the project comprises PMEs internationalization and innovation patterns and public higher organizations change and consequent challenges, resulting from the new public policies applicable to this sector.

In the first part of the project the main purposes are:

a) Analyze the career development and organizational socialization, especially in SMEs;

b) Identify empirically the dimensions of organizational justice as well as the factors that most contribute to each dimension.


The main purposes of the second part are:

c) Investigate and identify which factors contribute to the internationalization and innovation processes of SMEs;

d) Empirically identify the new challenges faced by higher education organizations and suggest solutions;

e) Empirically identify the new dimensions of consumption and to investigate possible relationships between them and the lifestyles of consumers, and eventually consequences at the organizational level.
