Project Summary:
Public policies on child labor in the European periphery or the colonies remain under-researched in the literature, which also neglects the potential interactions between countries. This project will address these gaps by examining Portugal and its former colonies and which policies are more likely to be effective in today’s developing countries. The research on Portuguese-speaking countries will also contribute to the recent revival of African economic history, particularly when Portuguese colonial records are still underused.
